I love places that transport you to a different era altogether with their spot on ambiance and dishes to kill. Fat Lulu’s at DLF Crosspoint Mall is one of the biggest outlets of the brand and boasts of Twenties in their full swing. With a rustic red brick wall interior, retro American monochromes, the much loved foosball table, frames from the Art Deco movement and an accoustic playlist. Dreamily decorated for Christmas, with happy hours, mulled wine and complete with a Christmas tree.
Start with a bunch of crispy toastada chips with dips as you ponder on the menu.
Strawberry and Mint Sparkling Sangria – heavily flavoured with strawberry and topped with mint. Tommy gin tonic – bayleaf, gin and sparkling tonic.
Pull Apart garlic bread – a beautiful baked piece embedded with garlic chunk and herbed mozzarella – the aroma of a freshly baked bread with melted cheese – this was one of the most exotic garlic breads I have ever had.
Super spicy nachos – homemade classic toastada chips drizzled over with bell pepper, fresh cilantro, sour cream, freshly made salsa and Mexican cheddar cheese. The nachos, not quite spicy but freshly baked and drizzled generously with delectable cheddar, the nachos were very savory.
Half and Half pizza – I am simply loving the idea of the best of both worlds – tried half of the Lulu’s vegetarian and half of the SOHO. A classic thin crust pizza, hand tossed and beautifully laden – fresh vegetables – olives, mushrooms, zucchini, bell pepper and a generously oozing mozzarella cheese. The SOHO topped with pepperoni, parma ham, lamb and Italian sausage – fresh crunchy meat chunks, the cheese was just a tad bit less on this bit of the pie.
Warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and almond shavings – a warm, gooey chocolate brownie topped with hot chocolate sauce, ice cream and crunchy almond shavings, a very sinful dessert.
Chocolate mousse – a soft, glutinous centre of dark chocolate with a warm outside, dusted with castor sugar.
Wash it down with a strong cuppa cappuccino and end your tryst with elaborate and gorgeously done bakes.
Step back into the twenties, play a game of foosball or just sip wine and enjoy their classic playlist and dig into their fabulous fresh bakes.
