Delhi houses a lot of State Bhawans, among which some canteens are open to public. After an amazing afternoon at Bihar Niwas, we decided to check out the neighbour. Goa Niwas itself is beautifully built and their restaurant transports you right to a cozy Goan household. The warmth of this place and lovely hospitality ensures you have a splendid, homely meal.
We started with grilled tiger prawns – huge fresh prawns, grilled to perfection and tossed with broccoli, red and yellow bell pepper and topped with a flavorsome Peri Peri chilly powder.
For the mains we gobbled upon the Red Snapper curry with steamed rice. We also tried their vegetable xacuti and Goan Poi. The red snapper was insanely fresh, cooked in a light coconut curry, balanced with chillies. The vegetable xacuti curry had lots of green vegetables, poppy seed, dry roast and coconut. The Goan Poi was freshly baked and absolutely a delight.
We finished our meal with a Goan sweets platter. Now I can’t get all the names right but the house baked plum cake was delectable.
Viva O’ Viva is one of the best places for an authentic Goan meal. The owner, Mr. Pattrick ensures your meal is a happy one with personal attention to each table. And to top it all, they have a comfortable parking space! *WIN WIN*
