The Pit at Vasant Vihar is not the newest haunt in the market, but definitely is one of the hidden gems. Located at Basant Lok Market, once known as the much popular Priya Market (90s kids would know!) From one of the first McDonald’s to Nirula’s and Modern Bazaar where you could buy all those International brands! Over the years, this market went through a transformation – McDonald’s and Modern Bazaar still remain – but the market now boasts of some of the coolest eateries and bars in town. Also, home to a bar that holds a spot in the Asia 50 best bars list – Hoots’.
The Pit, launched in 2021, initially in collaboration with HMan! HMan is known for its beautiful meat selection and selective options on the menu. The Pit now is all about lots of options, but retains the quality of meats, and focuses on getting the meats done to perfection. But that isn’t all, they also make their breads, dip and sauces, AND desserts in-house. Could it get better? Well, yes! You can also check out their online store for pre-marinated, ready-to-cook meats – Meatery.
Cocktails
Choose some classic Old Fashioned or opt for one of their bartender’s specials – The Caramel Volcano. A lot of magic happens on the table in this one with burnt orange and fired-up liquor.
the meats and more!
You cannot go wrong with the meats here, each portion is HUGE and shareable. So, I suggest you go with a large appetite or with your meat lover friends. All meats are served with 2 sides and a bunch of their homemade sauces – bbq, Buffalo hot sauce, honey mustard, mayo, ranch, and my personal favourite, the blue cheese mayo.
The sides include options of crusty garlic bread – a house-baked loaf slathered with garlic butter, truffle-infused double-fried French fries, onion rings, garlic beans, mashed potatoes and brown sauce, mac and cheese, and House salad.
Highly recommend the truffle fries, salad, and that crusty garlic bread which went perfectly with all the house sauces.
Must Haves at The Pit
The menu is neatly categorized by meats – and then you are given choices of dishes within that. The menu isn’t enormous – which is a good thing! They do a bunch of things and they do it bloody well. But meats are not the only thing they have – they also do a selection of burgers and pizzas. Along with a fair few options for your vegetarian friends too!
The butter garlic prawns have to be my favorite! Jumbo prawns in the shell, so bloody fresh, just cooked and topped with loads of garlic butter and herbs. The pork belly was the runner up. Fat rendered perfectly, sweetness of the meat coming through and oh, so soft. The brown sauce that came with it, is slow cooked overnight for its deep flavours.
I have been on a personal quest to find the perfect tiramisu in town, and no place has come close to La Piazza, Hyatt. That perfect balance between mascarpone, coffee, liqueur, crunchiness of lady finger biscuits, and cocoa. I assure you, I can eat this Tiramisu all by myself. It was that perfect!
I have been to many restaurants post-pandemic and there have been quite a few hits too – places that I absolutely loved. But even after that, this was the first place in almost 2 years that made me want to actually write about it. This meat lover’s paradise is not to be missed!
