The Kimono Club cover

The Kimono Club is the newest, HOTTEST property in town! Another masterpiece by restauranteurs Ashish Dev Kapur and Joydeep Singh. You know them from ace properties – Whisky Samba and The Wine Company in the city. Located at the posh Chanakya, The Kimono Club is designed stunningly. Bright sunlight pouring in makes it perfect for brunch with your girlfriends. And the lights come up to make it the perfect party spot. They have a beautiful 40-metre long bar and a call for Champagne button. Say what? Yes, you can simply buzz for Champagne for your celebrations. The Kimono Club also aces the art of cocktails. Read on for a gluttonous afternoon we had at The Kimono Club – #KimonoCalling!

Cocktails

I was blown away at the very beginning, not many places ask you your preferences about your drinks – balanced and absolutely perfect. I started with the fine Fermented strawberry champagne cocktail. They make a mean Negroni and Old Fashioned. You must try their Jasmine tea with Champagne.

Starting off

Kicked off the gluttony with an Amuse Bouche – water chestnut puree with tempura flakes. The cold appetizers are pretty great for munching with drinks – Soy glazed peanuts topped with white and black sesame and Cold cucumber in homemade soy, cherry tomatoes and crispy onions.

Appetizers

The menu at The Kimono Club has been curate beautifully by Chef Vikramjit Roy. A vast fresh seafood selection, Oyster bar, and duck favourites. Spinach with Sesame, creamy spinach, topped with a lacy smooth peanut sauce with sesame seeds. Burrata with peanut sauce, basil, cherry tomatoes and shaved lotus stem crisps. The Asian take on burrata was a refreshing pop of flavours. Loved the intermingling textures of the creamy burrata and peppy peanut sauce.

We tried a bunch of things from the Signature seafood section. Asian Crab Benedict – sourdough toasts, smeared with crab meat, topped with thick, creamy, nutty hollandaise and poached egg white. Andaman lobster with broccoli and Sichuan sauce – an easy munch, lobster chunks glazed with spicy Sichuan sauce, tossed with onions, bell pepper and broccoli. Braised Eel, grilled, Tamari sauce – served with crispy rice cakes. It is a great dish if you want to try eel for the first time. The Eel was beautifully braised, cooked with Tamari sauce to make it more palatable to the Indian palate.

Duck carpaccio

The duck section is one of the biggest hits of The Kimono Club. Although we couldn’t go for the classic Beijing duck, we gorged on the Duck carpaccio. Carpaccio is a technique of thinly slicing meat after pounding it thin and served raw. I have tried, salmon, tuna and even tenderloin carpaccio in the past, but the same in duck was mind-boggling. Served with Yuzu soy, and orange ice sorbet. This is a must-have.

Sushi

One of the best and my personal dishes at lunch – Edamame and Truffle sushi. The creamy edamame and the umami perfection of black truffles. I legit ate 4 of these, its a party inside your mouth.

Chunky tuna tartar – another delicacy. Chunky tuna, barley, miso, avocado, tempura flakes, a little bit of wasabi and all mixed together with soy in front of your eyes.

dimsums

Chef Vikramjit is a legend when it comes to Dumplings. I personally vouch for it after an amazing dimsum brunch at Whisky Samba. The speciality lies in serving each dumpling with a home-made sauce which compliments the meats of the dumpling. Holding a beautiful selection, the Lobster and truffle oil dumplings are Pork Xiao-long bao are highly recommended from this section.

Mains and staples

You would probably be wondering by now, how it is humanly possible to make it to the Main course after all that debauchery. Well, I did have help and it was all a big communal eating spree. My favourites of the mains are unfortunately the ones I don’t have a picture off. The squids with zucchini, heavy zests of ginger and oyster sauce & baked fish with aubergine mash.

desserts and wine

Finish off with a decadent vegan salted caramel chocolate tart with passionfruit jelly. And of course, a little digestive wine for all the gourmandization.

With bellies bursting and appetites satiated, which could probably be forever (lol, no though, who could get enough of good food!) There are plenty of must-haves at The Kimono Club, will pick my favourites. Edamame and truffle sushi, Lobster and truffle dumplings, Pork xiao-long bao, Squid with zucchini, Burrata with peanut sauce, and Vegan salted caramel chocolate tart.
