No two places can replicate the taste of biryani, nor what I have discovered quite recently, dahi ke kebab (oh drools!) Delhi NCR has come up with innumerable biryani delivery and takeaway outlets, each a with a little tweak of its own, each arguably authentic but each offering mind blowing biryani options. My latest conquest was Behrouz Biryani.
With more than 15 outlets all over Delhi NCR, Behrouz Biryani preens itself as the Persian biryani recipe. Their story dates back to the discovery of the city of Behrouz and the recipe of layered rice along with that which was later given the annotation of Biryani. The packaging is out of a royal’s page, an ornate box with a box of biryani, raita, salan and cutlery complete with mouth freshner.
I sampled the Lazeez murgh biryani – long grain, aromatic basmati, dowsed heavily with brown onions and a heavy dose of masala intermingling with lusciously marinated chicken chunks. The biryani was well layered and the heavy masala and whole spices gave it an edgy, irresistible aroma. The biryani comes with the traditional accompaniments, raita and salan. The raita could have been burrani to add more zest. The salan was amazing, more like a residue cooked with chillies and curry leaves. Team it up with the curd for a cooling effect, the salan residue to turn up the heat even more.
Try Behrouz biryani for their toothsome mouth-watering biryanis. And although they predominantly have biryanis, you can also find a kebab or two on the menu and judging by their marination, you mustn’t miss out on those either.
