Mamagoto has a new manifesto, a Bowl Manifesto. Bowl meals have been in vogue for a while now I would say, easy to eat, healthy and wholesome. Mamagoto’s newest manifesto of bowls has the greatest combinations – meats, delicious sauces paired with rice or noodles. And also some Super Bowl worthy Baos.
Mamagoto also happens to be my first real Asian food experience. The first year of college and having Leonardo da Vinci and his paintings as a part of the course, their take on the last supper melted my heart. It also happened to be the first place where I experienced the diversity of Asian flavors vis a vis the desi Chinese that I grew up eating. Some things at Mamagoto will always be my favourite – the corn fritters, their chicken skewers and the chocolate brownie.
Drinks
We started with some refreshing summer drinks – Watermelon and mint cooler and Kaffir Lime cooler and a bowl full of crispies with a hot chilly and a sweet chilly and soy sauce.
Starting off –
We started with a bunch of the regular appetizers – Porky tacos, street style shrimp dumplings, and chicken gyoza. Soft tortillas, well cooked pulled pork, micro greens, cucumbers, dried banana chips, and fryums. Served with peanut sauce and chilly sauce, these Asian tacos were absolutely delectable. The dumplings were SO good – juicy shrimps, steamed and topped with a chilly, black bean packing a world of flavors. The chicken gyozas too were the perfect balance between juiciness and crunchy, dipped in chilly soy, perfection!
Bowl Manifesto
Coming to their drool-worthy manifesto – Pulled chicken bao – honorary bowl worthy, these baos were stuffed with pulled chicken with whole spices, cucumbers, shredded beans, and a sweet and sticky hoisin sauce. The whole spices kind of marred the experience with their strong flavors on the palate.
Meal bowls – Chicken in white wine sauce with greens and tofu served with crunchy udon noodles – yellow and green zucchini, broccoli, button mushrooms, and tofu, steamed and tossed in the light flavored white wine sauce. More like a deconstructed bowl, the shredded chicken was tossed with pepper and red and yellow bell pepper served with udon noodles and topped with the peppery arugula leaves. Hot Mushroom Bowl – this was an absolute favorite – button mushrooms, shitake, oyster mushrooms and black fungus with spring onions in a thick, hot gravy. Teamed with udon again, the textures of the different kinds of mushrooms gave this dish that extra punch.
Finished off the meal with a delis Nutella baked cheesecake topped with hazelnuts.
An astonishingly amazing meal – you cannot miss out on their dumplings and the mushroom hot bowl!
