Civil House, A unique Boutique Cafe with gorgeous white texture walls, pops of yellow and open air patio creates the perfect setting for a summertime romance. Topped with vintage mirrors, intricate lamps and monochrome frames metasatazing the affair. Civil House packs a punch of nostalgia, a longing for open air Tuscany cafes and a picturesque backdrop in the heart of Delhi.
And their charm doesn’t end there. They have recently launched their exquisitely crafted summer menu – think coolers, homemade pasta and dishes that radiate summer colours.
We started off with some old favorites which will be always on the menu and sell like hot cakes, Balinese Chicken Skewer, Prawns Ajilo with lemon and coriander broth and Beetroot & Feta Cheese Burger!
The Balinese skewers and the Beetroot and Feta burger were the highlights for me, Bite into the skewer and the subtle flavors of lemongrass will come along with the tender chicken! The sweet chili dips complements the overall taste profile of these!
Next up the Beetroot burger, a favorite of many this one has a minced beetroot mashed with feta into a thick consistency with the help of walnuts and with home made hummus on top, the bun was also very impressive. The prawns Ajilo were a slight disappointment as the juices of the prawns weren’t coming out when slightly mashed with the broth.
Now for the new menu, summer menus often combine ingredients in the most curious fashion, like the Raw Mango Risotto with pine nuts which packed the freshness of these mangoes in a very balanced way, the risotto was neither too sweet nor too salty.
Next was the home made Spinach Fettuccini which bell pepper sauce, Both these things are very intriguing, the home made fettuccini is like the best infused fettuccini I have till date, even the sauce has a well-rounded taste of bell peppers. If you love bell peppers this is a must try!
The Crispy Quinoa cake was my favorite, a crispy exterior with a soft inside, the flavor was just perfect and the spicy tomato dip on top was class apart.
The stuffed mushroom weren’t relished much as they had a slightly bitter aftertaste and can be improved both in terms of presentation and the filling.
Next up the Chili Lamb Linguine, perfectly cooked linguine pasta with subtle flavors of basil and cheese in a spicy sauce. Very palatable.
Now was the turn of the mains, Mustard marinated Pork Chops with bacon pilaf, Morracon Tagine with prunes and cous cous pilaf and Fennel Butter Sea Bass with Risotto.
We started off with the Morracon tagine, an earthen pot tagine is typically used to cook this dish after which it is named, Zucchini Bell Peppers and mushrooms along with a pilaf which had prunes as the flavor! This one is surely a vegetarians delight and the presentation just makes it so much better!
The Pork Chops was another splendid dish, pork without the fat cooked amazingly well which made it very easy to cut and subtle flavors of freshly ground mustard, here the flavors were a bit too subtle as the inside of the pork tasted a little bland and had to be eaten with bacon pilaf for the punch!
Last but another classic treat to the eyes and the tongue was the sea bass, on a bed of risotto and fennel butter with a tangy taste and crisp asparagus!
A special mention to their Orange Cinnamon Iced tea and Pineapple Strawberry smoothie which are perfect for a hot summer day! Finishing up with Vanilla Panacotta which is a must try as its one of the best Panacotta I have had in Delhi NCR!
Civil House has gave me all kinds of goals, the presentation and the flavors of these dishes along with the ambience, it does make me want to go there every other day! A perfect 5/5 in Khan Market!
