Too many South Indian on the blog lately? Well, Delhi finally is moving past regular idli and dosa and opening doors to wholesome experiences. Juggernaut has been on my go-to list for a while now. And I was super glad to have made there for breakfast more than anything else.
Spread over three floors, enter Juggernaut to a traditional tilak and traditional masalas that you can purchase. The subsequent floors are all bustling with diners. Pick a spot next to the windows for winter sunshine. The interiors are quirky and kitschy. With astronauts mining in dhotis with coffee, Juggernaut initial in Devnagri on the furniture and crockery. This is not your basic plain jane South Indian place, the attention to detail will leave you impressed.
I happened to visit them for breakfast and it was a rather good decision. Juggernaut hosts live Indian classical musicians for breakfast every day till 11.30 AM. An experience I have previously experienced only at Taj Falaknuma. We obviously started with filter coffee and a helping of rasam papad. My staples at every South Indian place, ever.
Breakfast at Juggernaut
Our breakfast order was simple – Mushroom Chettinad Dosa and Vegetable stew with appams. Chettinad, from the state of Tamil Nadu is the food of the community called Nattukotai Chettiars. They use a variety of whole ground spices, sun-dried meats and salted vegetables. They also use rice-based breads – dosa, appams, idiyappams and more. The palate is generally very flavourful and on the spicier side.
Sliced mushrooms cooked in a hot Chettinad masala, crispy dosa served with sambhar, coconut, tomato and mint coconut chutney and coconut sweet to end your meal. The vegetable stew was a huge portion with greens cooked in a light coconut stew and fluffy appams.
Highly recommend visiting them for breakfast for a beautiful experience. The best part, it opens really early, 6 AM and makes for a perfect place after those all-night ragers.
