An intriguing tasting with Lucaris wine glasses

I have been to wine tastings before, but nothing quite like this one. Lucaris hosted the most striking wine tasting sessions with their different ranges. Lucaris stemware and wine accessories is a collaborative project by the pioneers Ocean Glass, Toyo-Sasaki Glass, and Martin Ballendat, a multiple award-winning German designer. They have come up with three absolutely novel ranges – Desire, HongKong Hip, and Shanghai Soul.

With unprecedented designs, Lucaris offers an ideal range which brings out the flavors of the wine in the best possible manner.
This wine tasting was not only about the finer points of wine but how the same wine tasted in three different types of glasses – one each from the Desire, HongKong Hip and Shanghai Soul collections. We tried four different wines, Sula Dindori Reserva Shiraz, Mud House Pinot Noir, Mud House Sauvignon Blanc, and Hardy’s William Chardonnay Limestone Coast.

Each glass, depending on its unique design lent different notes on the nose and mouth. My favourites remained the crafted glasses from the Desire Collection – the nuances in the design added greatly to the qualities of the wines. The Crisp White with the Sauvignon Blanc {with the greatest taper, this brought out the floral and citrus notes} and the Elegant Red with the Pinot Noir {dry and very crisp with a minerally mouth}. Sarah Heller, the youngest Master of Wine took us through each glass, with utmost passion and skill.

Followed by a fine dinner by the Chef wizards at The Leela Palace, this wine tasting experience was most novel and fascinating.
Lucaris glasses are available at leading stores and online platforms.
