Jaffer Bhai’s Dilli Darbar

Just like Delhi, Mumbai has it’s whims, fancies, legendary food outlets and cafes and amazing seafood to binge on, the hidden gems and cafe’s that you hear about and chains that have crept in from the glamorous city to Delhi and then there are simple times of desperation when you are starving and are ready to pounce on the first half decent place that comes your way.

Jaffer Bhai’s Dilli Darbar was our quick lunch stop over and it didn’t disappoint. Parsi, Afghani and traditional north Indian Preparations, the peppy yellow outside and comfortable inside seating.

We started with Pahadi chicken tikka – a magnificent dish on previous occasions (as per mommy dear), this was a tad less marinated and thus lacked the melt in your mouth, delectable creamy texture.

Prawns Koliwada – rice flour battered prawns, crispy fried and very toothsome. Succulent and super fresh prawns, battered with a thick rice flour batter, fried and topped with chaat masala. The best part was that even though the batter was so thick, there was no evident oil to mar the experience.

Mutton salli boti and tandoori roti – I have tried this dish in Delhi,  and have also tried my own hand at this dish. However, this was very different, humble tamatar-pyaaz gravy, boneless, bite sized mutton pieces, a creamy texture and crunchy salli (strawed fried potatoes) drenched in gravy.

All in all, a pretty decent and economical meal option if you don’t get to hit the major spots.
