Escape to the Himalayas – Cafe Lungta

If you have hit the splendid Cocktails and Dreams, Speakeasy, you would have crossed through this cozy Himalayan Cafe to step into another era. And as great as the Speakeasy is, Cafe Lungta is one of the best places you can hit for some authentic Nepalese and Tibetan food. With textured walls, listed specials, frames, and potted plants, the cafe emits a kind of cool vibe and easy dining.

We started with Wai Wai Sandheko – crunchy wai-wai tossed with fresh onions, tomatoes, coriander, and lemon juice. The hot wai-wai is like a crazy street chaat version and makes for a sumptuous start.

Darjeelingey Momo – more on the lines of a bao – the momos were humongous made with fermented dough and steamed with toothsome chicken. Dunk the soft momos in the sharp Dalle Khursani, chilly dip and be transported to the hills.

Bhutun – stir fried chewy, bitesized pieces of mutton, a little tough but generously tossed in fresh ground spices. Bhutun is a chewy but an amazingly alluring dish.

Sel roti thali – a crispy fried pertzel shaped bread with a tinge of sweetness served with sarson ki bhurji, masala aloo, kundru, tamatar pyaaz ki chutney, pickle, malka dal and a home style chicken curry. A traditional thali of the Nepali household, this thali was a wholesome, balanced experience with wonderful home style flavors. The spicy chicken curry with just a little sweetness of the bread, this made for a kickass ensemble.
