Biryani and Qorma Express

Mughlai delicacies from the meandering streets of Old Delhi have found a new address at Baani Square, Gurgaon. The subtle aromas of biryani and melt in your mouth meat delicacies lure you to this newbie at the ever booming Baani Square. Armed with one of the best locations, an outdoor seating area they boast of their specialties in their name itself.

The place is neatly lined with a huge menu and frames that take you right back to Puraani Dilli ki galis and creaks. We started with mutton qorma, sheermal and khamiri roti. They use the finest meat, at the right age and with the right cuts which makes the meat so succulent that it just came off the bones at the slightest touch. The mutton qorma, was undoubtedly the best and most tender meats served in Mughlai restaurants with much fanfare. Served with khamiri roti made to a soft fluffiness and sheermal the richness of the mutton qorma is bound to transport you Royal times.

Mutton biryani is one of the most crafty preparations – made differently in all the different regions – I myself prefer the subtle flavored Awadhi/Lucknowi biryani vis-a-vis the more power packed Hyderabadi biryani. This one was laced with rose water and kewra and cooked with mutton chunks on dum. Served with the cool burrani raita, which added to the flavors.

Rounding up the meal with portions of phirni served in traditional claypots.

So let go of all pretensions and dig into these traditional meaty delicacies with your hands and don’t miss on their divine qorma and biryani.

PS – they also have day specials, the favorites being nalli nihari and dal gosht.
