Chakkhna is desi for bar nibbles and peanuts or namkeen make for a staple chakkhna, this one however, is extra special. Chakkhna…beyond peanuts is a delivery outlet located at Sohna Road with a carefully constructed chef’s specials and an assortment of beautiful classics. I received a hamper of the Chef’s finest dishes. A personal touch always goes a long way and not only was every dish very neatly labelled, they also gave a description and cute little notes. This was my first cue to fall in love with them.
For starters – Gulchi kebab – chicken breast stuffed with chopped nuts and coated and marinated with a creamy and slightly minty layer grilled to a juicy zest. Zafrani paneer tikka – roundels of paneer stuffed with raisins and cashews and infused with saffron. The flavors were mild and the slight fragrance of cashews (which is disastrous if your hand is heavy) was alluring but the tikka felt slightly bland and could have packed a little more punch.
Starting with the main course – Chakkhna special dal, Chakkhna special chicken 2.0, vegetable biryani with raita with masala roti and laccha parantha. The Chakkhna special dal was probably the first time I didn’t complain about not getting dal makhni. The flavors were nothing like ordinary – arhar, urad, moong and chana dal all mixed together in a lacey gravy topped with crunchy makhanas. (Cue #2 to fall in love with them)
Chakkhna special chicken 2.0 – topped with a layer of namkeen – which usually makes for commonplace chakkhna – a creamy tomato based gravy with succulent, melt in your mouth morsels of chicken. Vegetable biryani was a palatable and fragrant affair with crunchy vegetables and a cool raita. Masala roti kneaded with potato, onions and spices, this too was an appetizing preparation.
Ended this feast with Gulfam – A heart shaped mousse with centre filled with gulkand – very fragrant, luscious and sumptuous. This was my third and final cur to fall in love with Chakkhna with this rich creamy dessert.
The feast from Chakkhna was unparalleled with their distinct flavors and preparations made with utmost love. Gulfam, Chakkhna special dal and Chakkhna special chicken is not to be missed at all.
