Gohan Grill and Bistro

Gohan Bistro and Grill is a revamped place launched just about a month back offering fusion Japanese against a relaxed bistro style ambiance. They have mostly been catering to the Japanese professionals and slowly branching out their clientele to Indians who enjoy good Japanese food. A clean place with posters of Japanese adaptations of Star Wars and James Bond, an array of Japanese magazines and a graffiti done on a white brick wall by the Chef. They have also started live mic sessions and music nights of Friday and are soon to hit off movie nights as well. The tables are beautifully set with characters printed on heathered plates and they have the most beautiful assortment of printed chopsticks.

I started my meal with Shochu, the most refreshing Japanese drink with distilled liqueurs and soda or water as per your taste. Add a twist of lime, and you have a jackpot summer drink. Next I had cream corn soup – the soup is a thick, sweet sweet corn soup which happens to be a favorite of kids in Japan.

The chicken karage is a fried chicken appetizer – crispy coated chicken and topped with cream – the chicken could have been a little more juicy.

The fried fish was sensational – fried fish sitting on a banana chip and topped with wasabi mayo. The fish was so, so fresh and so delectable. They use Vietnamese Basa and the aroma and flavors are mind blowing. The topped wasabi mayo adds to the zing exponentially.

Sushi – fresh with a slight crunch and a cool underlying taste with the crunchy cucumber.

Hyashi Chuka – this is a cold salad meal and one of the best dishes I have had this summer. Ramen noodles boiled and then drowned in frozen water giving them a nice chill. Topped with fresh crunchy vegetables, this makes for a very refreshing meal bowl.

Ended the meal with a Bailey’s Cookie Crumble – warm bailey’s with chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream and topped with crumbled oreos. Ah! Heaven can wait.

You absolutely cannot miss their fish, sushi and my personal favorite, Hyashi Chuka. *Yummy*
