Le Marche – Sugar & Spice Cafe

Le Marche – Sugar and Spice is a quaint little cafe located in DLF Galleria. Unlike most places there, this cafe is relatively roomy and makes for an ideal spot to grab a bite. An extension to their bakery shop, the interiors are an amalgamation of vintage and preppy. French-Cafe illustrations, vintage pastel furniture and a very preppy striped yellow wall – flower vase, framed vintage satires and quirky white birdcages hanging outside. The well-lit cafe is fanciful with more than just their whimsically classic ambience.

We reached a little post-lunch and after soaking in the interiors, decided to order one portion of the garlic bread basket, a house-smoked chicken brown bread sandwich, a Crannade and a cold coffee, followed by a four seasons pizza. The service is very prompt and the staff very courteous. However, the place is done very tastefully, there were few elements that just didn’t fit with their ambience and they could change that – the table-mats, for instance, could have had a more rustic or minimalistic touch instead of a matte metal finish. Similarly, the sandwich and bread basket were both served with dust-pan like containers which I feel could be replaced for something a little more classic.

The Food –

The bread basket is a hand-stretched French baguette, generously drowsed with butter. The freshness and crispiness of the bread is pretty evident and like any well-baked baguette, it starts going dry as it cools down, so gobble it while it is still hot. Served alongside was a fresh mustard-mayo dip which was very palatable.

The cold coffee was a slight bummer – it was not as cold or creamy as we would have liked. The Crannade – lemonade with a cranberry twist was very refreshing.

The House Smoked brown bread chicken sandwich was a league apart. Served with wafers and fresh mustard dip, the club sandwich was grilled to perfection. Juicy, smoked chicken, pesto mayo, soft, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and swiss cheese in fresh brown bread. The texture of bacon and smoked chicken went extremely well together and the dressing was to die for.

The four seasons pizza came in a nice wooden platter – thin crust, artichokes, asparagus, mushrooms, bell pepper, and cheese made for a classic vegetable pizza. The soft crust of the pizza, fresh toppings and mozzarella made for a very appetizing experience.
