Asian Hawkers Market Season II

After a fantastic run last October, Asian Hawkers Market is back with a bang for a fantastic Valentine’s Day weekend. Red paper lanterns and streamers swinging the place, live groovy music and enticing aromas of Asian delicacies filling the air.

You can spot Social’s noodle boxes, Big Fat Sandwich, Yum Yum Cha’s ice creams and drinks, Le Meridian’s Latest Recipe, Veda and so many more delightful places to choose from. We were kind of hoping to check out Chew – Pan Asian Cafe too but sadly they didn’t have a stall.

ASIA SEVEN –

We started our food expedition with a Ho-Chi Minh grilled chicken satay – juicy chunks of chicken with a beautiful flavour of lemongrass – on for a great start!

We moved onto trying some Baos from Fatty Bao – a chicken teriyaki and a cha sui bao. Soft, steamed Taiwanese bread, pulled pork, teriyaki chicken topped with fresh vegetables. Delectable.

We moved next to Big Wong for some palatable dimsums and khao suey. Had Chicken Thai herbs, Chicken Sui Mai, Chicken Curry dimsums and Chicken Khao Suey.

thai herb dimsums
Chicken Thai Herb dimsum is one of the most ambrosial thing I have got my hands on – thin skinned, steamed stuffed with fresh chicken, Thai herbs and topped with a beautiful Thai herb sauce. And there is a specific way to eat it – whole and to cherish the flavours best, close your eyes and let your other senses take over.

Khao Suey with soft noodles, peanuts, lemon grass and crispies. The subtle underlying taste of lemongrass was very enticing.

Left – Chicken curry dimsum – soft dumplings with a pang of cold curry. Right – Chicken Sui Mai – a perfect preparation after oh so long, served with a piquant sweet sauce.

Tried mint mohito and Japanese Yakotori from Benito cafe.

Japanese Yakitori – chicken satay with leeks.

HONK – The assembly of dishes completely impressed us.

And more than the noodles we were gaga over this cutie!

Finish your expedition with a bite from Sugarama, Hokey Pokey or Yum Yum Cha.
