Balance your equations with MOLECULE

The most awaited cafe and air bar made an incredible debut just as the year closed in. The brainchild from the creators of successful names like Lights  Camera Action and IMLY, MOLECULE takes the mania to a whole different level. Located on the third floor with a private terrace which is still being furnished. The nitty gritties of the place are very intriguing.

The place is magnanimous. Pipe art work, chemical equations, organic chemistry and symbols on the glass giving it a stained geek kind of effect.A rustic ambiance overall, with metallic war installations and framed blue prints. The overhead lamps are hexagonal giving a very illusionistic look. The bar is monumental – goblets hanging upside down, filament bulbs and big huge brew containers. Leather couches and high chairs add a lush to the whole place. Upstairs was still being furnished when I visited but the huge molecular fixtures sure catch your eye.

The menu is beautiful and pretty extensive – from some pretty interesting fusion appetizers to a sumptuous main course menu. We went overboard and ordered a portion of chicken and jalapeno bruschettas, Molecular puchka shots, spaghetti arabiata and a chicken lababdar meal combo.

The puchka shots were like the future of the street favourite gol gappe. The ensemble came on a wooden platter with gol gappas in a gunny bag, syringes full of mint and tamarind chutneys, the masala in a cute little cooker (that instantly reminded me of the tiny Hawkins I had when I was a kid) and test tubes full of 5 different kinds of flavoured water. The dry ice evaporating created a beautiful mystical effect. The off-beat zests of the water was amaze-balls – the pineapple, mango and beetroot were my favourite!

The bruschettas too came in a wooden platter sprinkled with oregano – topped with onion caviar. Rich and savory slices with shredded chicken and jalapeno. The bruschettas made for a very appetizing munch.

The spaghetti came in a barrel top shaped plate topped with a basil leaf. The pasta was done al dente – the creamy crushed tomato sauce, crunchy zucchini, broccoli, olives and bell pepper and slight flavours of parmesean – very toothsome.

I have loved the chicken meal combos at LCA and it was kind of a give that I tried the meals here. Ordered a chicken lababdar meal. It came in a bright yellow wooden tray with chicken lababdar and dal makhni in small pans, a gunny bag holding hot naans, mint chutney and sirke wale pyaaz. The chicken was luscious – creamy gravy with boneless melt in your mouth chicken pieces. The velvety gravy and succulent chicken left us craving for more. The dal too was very tasty – creamy flavoursome lentils which went very well with the perfectly done up butter naan.

The meal was topped with a complimentary sugar rush – kiwi flavoured candy floss, whipped cream in a waffle cone.

Mystique smoke, science, a killer ambiance, mouth watering preparations and delightful prices – I can’t wait to go back for Molecule for more!
