The pink city has so much to offer –
Check out the best places you must visit in Jaipur for a culturally enriched experience. Fancy a visit to Choki Dhani, here’s a snippet of my experience.
Restaurants in Jaipur
Unlike Delhi, where most popular restaurants don’t accept reservations, especially on weekends. Jaipur is the exact opposite. And I learned it the hard way by just showing up to places with a 2-hour waiting. The only exception was Bar Palladio, but they too have changed their no reservation policy now! So, the biggest tip – MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!
Iconic bars, many of them, newest modern Indian restaurant the Native Cocktail room finds a spot alongside the iconic LMB! One of my favourite finds was Baradari, located inside City Palace with a sprawling beautiful ambiance, and fusion, desi and International bites. It isn’t on my list, but if dining inside majestic forts hums your drum, you must check out 1135AD at Amer Fort.
Of course, there are plenty more to choose from – my list includes some legendary outlets, inspiring cafes, and the best bars you can get around to. The fact that most of these are perfectly Instagrammable is a huge plus!
Laxmi misthan bhandar (LMB)
Laxmi Misthan Bhandar is as iconic as Jaipur restaurants get. This sweet shop has been around since 1747, and that is reason enough to visit them in the heart of Johri Bazaar. The pyaaz ki kachauri is an obvious must have! Crunchy, with whole spices, caramelized onions, top with with meethi chutney! The ghewar, paneer ghewar in particular is a big hit so is the mawa ki kachauri is you have a sweet tooth! Souvenirs to take home – none of these delights go bad and travel easily.
rawat misthan bhandar
Rawat Misthan Bhandar is the other name that comes to mind when thinking about pyaaz ki kachauri. The pyaaz and mawa kachauris are always present in abundance at this shop located at Station road. The pyaaz ki kachauri is slightly thicker on the outside as compared to LMB, but each sweetmeat house has its fans. I personally preferred LMB’s pyaaz ki kachauri. Rawat doesn’t serve their kachauri’s with any chutney, which I personally really like. They also have a restaurant closeby and the dal baati churma they serve is a must have!
handi restaurant
You can’t go to Jaipur without gorging on some laal maas and bajra roti. Laal maas is red, bold and HOT. It will ensnare your senses and yet not burn your tastebuds alive. Lots of garlic, Mathania chillies, and a thick, chunky gravy. Every region does laal maas slightly differently, much like butter chicken. Handi has that old-world charm and their new rooftop restaurant has a really cool youthful vibe with live music on most nights. Pair your laal maas with bajra roti to soak up and balance the heat.
Also read about the hari mirch maas that I tried at Narendra Bhawan, Bikaner.
curious life coffee roasters
Every city has that one cool cafe where you will find the inspired crowd – the artists, the frequent ones who have it as their favourite haunt, where everyone knows everyone. Curious life cafe roasters felt like that for Jaipur. Hopped down there for breakfast to explore their wonderful coffee section. The avocado toast and eggs were all on point!
bar palladio
Now, to the big buns – one of the most snapped at and best restaurants in Jaipur – Bar Palladio. It is a mini-celebrity in itself, being featured in Netflix’s Mismatched. This super instagrammable blue and white bar whips out beautiful cocktails. The food is mostly Italian and continental. Choose to sit indoors or take a spot at the wide outdoor canopies.
Must try : Dirty Martini
shikaar bagh
Literally next doors to Bar Palladio – Shikaar Bagh is just as happening and groovy as Bar Palladio. With equally beautiful outdoor seating in old school carriages, Shikaar Bagh is slightly bigger with seating on the first floor as well. Choose one of the cocktails from the special menu. The Indian food here is impeccable – from the traditional Rajasthani Junglee Maas to patthar ke kebab. Junglee Maas is made with dried red chillies instead of Mathania chillies, like Laal maas. But it is equally hot, and rich.
Must try – gin cocktails and junglee maas
steam, taj rambagh palace
Located inside the pristine Taj Rambagh Palace, Steam is their bar which is built inside an old Steam Engine. And offers beautiful views of the Rambagh palace at night. Sit inside an old school train and sip on your cocktails in this royal setting.
native cocktail room
Located inside Hotel Pearl Palace, The Native cocktail room is the newest entrant to the Jaipur food scene! A cocktail focus bar which highlights Indian flavours and produce. The food is equally brilliant – the Indian style tacos and tostadas that we tried were amazing. Make sure you reserve ahead of time as the get sold out pretty quickly, and opt for indoor seating. The outdoor seating will not do justice to the experience.
baradari, city palace
Step inside this sprawling restaurant located inside City Palace with a master piece bar, numerous seating options – from outdoors, to cozy cabana style corners and indoor seating. There are hints of the original royal palace but the place exuberates the modern style and panache it has been trasnformed into. The menu is a careful selection and balance of Indian, International and a few fusion dishes. The cheese stuffed kachauri – an ode to the Jaipur pyaaz kachauri is a must have. The drinks and platters are both amazing as well.
Jaipour brewery @ forresta, devraj niwas
Could there be more reasons than just the beautfiul ambiance to visit Forresta? Well, it has made it to my lsit of best restaurants in Jaipur because it houses a microbrewery inside its greenhouse, almost forest like restaurant. Jaipour brews are fresh and crisp and the perfect respite to the desert heat on a summer evening. Order a beer sampler (chargeable much like Pune, and unlike the capital) and take your pick to order a huge cold one!
Love breweries? Pune has some amazing ones! As does Bangalore.
